Soccer Saturday legend Jeff Stelling Awoke on His Own 100-mile March for Men on Thursday to raise money and awareness .
Jeff will participate in four marathons, in 3 states – starting on Thursday, before ending on Sunday in London and traveling to Belfast, Cardiff.
Thursday’s course took Jeff into the grounds of Celtic Rangers and Hamilton Academical from the Scottish national stadium Hampden Park prior ending in Motherwell.
Before he started his endeavour, Jeff told Sky Sports News:”We are trying to increase awareness of a disease which kills a man every 45 minutes, then every half a football game. Prostate cancer wills contract at any point in our own lives, which is a figure.
“Men are reluctant to go to their GP about anything and when it’s to do with anything below the waist they are not going anywhere near it. It is a mindset that alter and we’ve got to try.
“We have done 25 marathons in the past to try and change that mindset and I think it is working. People have been very generous and they have contributed #800,000 within the past few years and we’re hoping to get past the 1m this year.”
On the way, Stelling expects to be joined by a lot of his friends within the world and he put off by Malky Mackay and David Moyes with Charlie Nicholas.
Nicholas was supposed to join up in the last stop, Ibrox, but Jeff wasn’t surprised he prevented the home of his team Celtic’s rivals.
He said:”Can you expect him to turn up at Ibrox? Chicken Charlie – that is what we call him.
“He is in London and his flight was delayed so he’s trying to have here as soon as he possibly can. We are told surprisethat it will probably be sometime shortly after we have left Ibrox.”
If he visits Cliftonville Crusaders, Glentoran and Linfield at Northern Ireland stelling will last his trip.
