Langer was a crucial part of the Dolphins’ 1972 team who went an entire season undefeated and is viewed as one of the greatest centers in NFL history.
The two-time Super Bowl winner and Hall of Fame member died on Thursday, the Dolphins said.
“His gifts to the game will live forever,” Hall of Fame president David Baker explained.
Langer appeared from 1970 to 1979.
“He was the greatest team-mate,” Baker added.
Langer recently gave an interview to BBC Sport about his exploits in that powerful 1972 outfit, talking of it as”a very unique team. It turned into a family”.
In addition, he spoke from Nick Buoniconti, Bob Kuechenberg and this age, who died earlier this year.
His career was ended by langer home state team Minnesota Vikings. “All our thoughts are with Jim Langer’s friends and family during this tricky time,” the franchise stated.
“We’ve lost one of the biggest,” said South Dakota State University, for whom Langer surfaced prior to graduating and joining the Dolphins.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, and four kids.
