Nemanja Matic: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responsible if Manchester United do not compete for title

Nemanja Matic says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might need to maintain himself accountable if Manchester United do not compete to the Premier League title.
Matic, that arrived at Old Trafford in Chelsea in 2017, has played only 22 minutes this season after making one appearance as a substitute from Southampton.
United, who last won the team title in 2013, are eighth in the table after track league leaders Liverpool and four games by seven points.
“The trainer must choose the team who will fight to the title and if he fails to win, he bears the obligation,” Matic told reporters before Serbia’s European Qualifier from Portugal on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
“I have been in football for quite a long time, I have played almost all of the games for all the clubs in the last ten years. In order for me to play, one had to sit the seat and take that fact, and so do I ”
Solskjaer has chosen 22-year-old Scott McTominay to associate Paul Pogba in central midfield in the first four games of United and although Matic respects the conclusion, he’s determined to demonstrate the Norwegian erroneous.
“At the first two or three matches he picked the team without me,” Matic added. “I work as hard as I can. We respect the decision, it is up to me to show him that he was wrong and to put me back to where I belong.
“There is not any problem. I informed him I disagreed with him but that he needed to pick the group.”
United return after the break when they host Brendan Rodgers’ unbeaten Leicester on September 14 at Old Trafford.
Paul Scholes doesn’t think Solskjaer’s side can compete to the Premier League title in the next couple of years.
Even the England and ex-United midfielder considers results this season reveal they stay in the Premier League behind last year’s top four.
He said:”I think you practically have to write United off to the subsequent two years – this group – until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cleared everything he wants out; includes five or four transfer windows”
