Racism in football: Twitter defends abuse policy after Premier League players targeted

Social networking platform Twitter says it has”taken action” on”over 700 cases of hateful conduct” in the previous two weeks after a few Premier League players have been racially abused.
Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham and manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba are.
The online service says it will”continue to take speedy action”.
Additionally, it has fulfilled clubs and other football bodies in an attempt to”handle the matter collectively”.
“This vile content has no place on our support,” it said in an announcement. “We want to play our part in controlling this unacceptable behaviour.”
Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard and united manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have been one of those asking to do more to curb behavior.
United, Abraham and pogba ahead Marcus Rashford were abused after missing penalties for their own clubs.
Twitter stated:”In the last two weeks, we have taken action on more than 700 cases of misuse and hateful behavior associated with UK football.
“We will continue to take speedy action on the minority which attempt to undermine the conversation for the majority. In the exact same time, we’ve met together with the Professional Footballers’ Association, Kick It Out and instantly influenced soccer clubs, also agreed several proactive measures to handle this problem together.
“Working together with the PFA, we’ll take part in their player coaching programme, and also will be linking a series of educational sessions with its membership to encourage the PFA’s ambition to attack the situation.
“Working with Kick It Out, we’ll keep our working relationship with UK policing to further brief them and offer training on our policies, processes and dedicated 24/7 reporting channels for law enforcement.
“To be more clear, this behaviour doesn’t reflect the vast majority of enthusiasts who use Twitter to participate in vibrant conversations around soccer in the UK. We have spent years forging powerful partnerships with teams, organisations and supporters and deeply appreciate the relationships”
